y thanks to Kathleen Carpenter of Teachers Net at: http://www.teachers.net
chat for giving me the opportunity to moderate a monthly teachers chat. The chat
is primarily for Canadian teachers, but you're all invited to come out and
chat in real time on Friday November 12, 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. Right after the chat there is a French Language Chat as well. (It gives me a chance to
brush up on my French!)

My thanks and sincere appreciation to Harry and Rosemary Wong. Harry gave
me the opportunity to interview him at the last minute during a recent
presentation he gave at a local high school here in London, Ontario Canada. I have posted his interview, book review and summary of his major concepts (61 of them!) .

Thanks also to Tim Bedley who has agreed once a month to share his Mr.
Tim's Teacher Tips! His first tip is included in this month's newsletter and a
review of his book is included at Glavac.com

MR. TIM'S TEACHER TIPS

Two-Minute Start

After giving directions and allowing for student questions, try starting
independent practice with a Two-Minute Start.  During this time, students are not
allowed to talk to anyone, including the teacher (this encourages the students to try on their own without running to the teacher for immediate help.)

They are not allowed out of their seats.  They are not allowed to ask for
help or raise their hands.  It is amazing how well the students concentrate, and a
great tone is set for the rest of the work period.  Set a timer for two minutes and
penalize any infractions.  When the timer goes off, announce that you are available for any important questions.
