Thank you for all the support you've given me for my new book The Busy
Educator's Guide To The World Wide Web 2nd Edition (foreword by
Dr. Harry Wong, author of The First Days Of School). A very big thank you to
Netsurfer Education http://www.netsurf.com/nse/ who included this review in their
November newsletter:

The Busy Educator's Guide To The World Wide Web 2nd Edition
Marjan Glavac

NIMA Systems; ISBN: 0968331017

Early in our history, Netsurfer Education offered a recommendation of the first
edition of this practical reference, adding that our only real reservation about the
book was that the Internet is a dynamic resource that could be hard to capture on
paper. We were right. The Web doesn't stand still - and neither does author
Glavac. The second edition of his very smart, very useful resource builds on the
first, searching out new and substantive sites that can contribute to classroom
excellence on a daily, even hourly, basis. We're more than pleased to recommend
Glavac's second edition for teachers and students who might be new to the online
experience or old hands at it. It's quite simply one of the most practical resources
any educator or learner could have at hand in the Information Age.
If you liked the book please post a review on amazon.com  THANK YOU!

A very big thank you to Judy Byers, Larry Deacon, David Harrison and
other members of the Saskatchewan Association for Computers in
Education (SACE) who invited me to Saskatoon to deliver a keynote and a
workshop for their 3 day November conference.  I met a lot of great teachers
and experienced Saskatchewanian hospitality at its best!  Thank you.

CLASSROOM TEACHER'S EMERGENCY LESSON PLANS
John Philips
http://jjohnnypress.com
These emergency lesson plans come from John Philips new book "Jivin
Johnny's Classroom Teacher's Emergency Lesson Plans for elementary
and high schools."  The book contains over 90 student centered lessons and
projects to help you survive--while your students learn!

BLIND
List 10 things you would miss seeing if you were to lose your sight.
List 10 things that would be difficult to comprehend if you were born blind.
Read Helen Keller's essay "Three Days to See."

List what she would most like to see if she were given the opportunity.
Under safe and fully-supervised conditions, take turns blindfolding each
other and trying to compete some simple tasks or maneuvers.
Some suggestions:  - pick up a dropped ruler
    - extract exactly 19 cents from a pencil case
   - staple a piece of paper to the bulletin board
   - hand out books to your row
   - open a combination lock
   - add 3 of your own

When finished, record your observations and feelings.
Facing the back of the room, describe 10 features of the front of the room.
How many doors are there between you and the outside of the school?
How many stairs?
Assuming you didn't have sight to help you, what parts of your walk home
from school would be the most treacherous?
Once home, which areas of your house would cause navigation problems?
What could you make yourself for supper?
Which appliances or machines around the house would you still use?
Which would you avoid?
How would you entertain yourself?

METLINK WEATHER WATCH INTERNET PROJECT
http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/radgeog/metlink/metlink.html
Chris Jackson, principal of James Gibbons School, Edmonton Alberta
Canada is looking for participants for the MetLink Weather Project for 2001.
Last year, the school participated in an International Weather Watch Project
and shared data collected with a number of other schools around the world.
They were the only school in North America to participate. The UK Metlink
Project lasted for a two-week period and the support the school received
was exceptional.

The project involved students in observing maximum and minimum
temperatures, barometric pressure, wind direction and speed, humidity,
precipitation and cloud cover.

The MetLink International project will run again in January and February
2001. The active period, when  weather observations will be exchanged
every day for two weeks, will be Monday 29 January to Friday 9 February.
For more information, contact Chris Jackson at:

LES GRANDES CHANSONS DE LA PETITE ECOLE
http://www.lesgrandeschansons.qc.ca

This website offers 16 songs from a music CD that young students of music teacher Sylvain Bédard at École St-Damase elementary school in St. Hyacinthe Quebec Canada created with synthesizers and a computer. These songs are all related to a calender on the website.  From the first one (first days at school) to the last (moving away during vacations), themes follow one after the other in the imaginary world of any student. This CD reflects a model to follow and demonstrates that it’s possible for students to show their point of view as well as professionnels do.  They can write properly.  They can compose music and they are able to demonstrate it.
