BC Hydro Safety for Kids
http://www.bchydro.com/safety/kids/kids652.html

Promoting hydro safety for kids is one of those things that teachers and parents need to do constantly.  Anything that helps teachers and parents communicate this message to kids is worthwhile looking into.

The BC Hydro Safety for Kids is a site that does just that.  This site reinforces the safety message for kids with games, crossword puzzles, connect the dots, content and colouring
pages.

Guided by cartoon mascot, this hour long safety program has been teaching children about safety and electricity since 1983 through a school program for Grade 4 and 5 students. The program uses slides, a film, and hands on demonstrations to teach the safe use of electricity.  This program is free throughout the province of British Columbia.

On the website, Louie the Lightning Bug introduces 10 safety rules when using electricity.  Each of the 10 safety rules are hyperlinked to another page containing a paragraph or two describing the rule.  There is also a colouring page with each rule which can be enlarged.  The safety information can also be printed out using the printer friendly version.

Louie’s Fun and Games webpage contains four printer friendly fun worksheets for kids to fill out and colour.  There are also 4 downloadable modules for grades K-12 containing a variety of teaching resources and tools for energy education.

Other programs which BC Hydro offers to teachers and students include: a free, two-part workshop series for grades 3-8 where students are encouraged to become energy detectives and discover hidden ways to save energy in their schools; “Energy Reviews”, a two-year technical work experience program for students in Grades 10-12; “ElectroJuice”, a program to develop an awareness that will help prevent young people from being injured in an electrical accident on or off the job; sponsoring the distribution of the Climate Change Action and Awareness education kits to 560 B.C. secondary schools; promoting hydrogen education in British Columbian schools by offering a Special Price of $175 on Solar Hydrogen Fuel Cell Science Kits; Movie-Making programs for grades 3-8.
