Ontario elementary teacher Robert Smolenaars goal for the CuriousCanuck.com is to have it become the most comprehensive collection of online educational resources available for Canadian elementary students, their families, and their teachers.  He is also committed to providing learners and educators with the online tools to foster a sense of curiosity and facilitate a love of life-long learning.

It is a very ambitious goal.  Smolenaars is so committed to it that he has taken a one year personal leave from his grade ¾ class to work on it.

The site is designed as a free resource for elementary students in grade 1-8, teachers and parents. It is still a work in progress.  At the time of writing, links to specific expectations to the Ontario Elementary Curriculum have been completed.  British Columbia is scheduled to be next.  Then the rest of Canada.

An excellent place to start at CuriousCanuck.com is by clicking on the Take The CuriousCanuck.com Tour.  The tour is geared to both teachers and students.  Screenshots of pages are shown and instructions are given for links to click on for subjects and additional resources.  The tour also includes extra features of interest to teachers, a rubric maker and a lesson plan writer.

The site has many useful and relevant resources which are well organized by grade and  strand and are easy to access for students, teachers and parents.

If the site attains its goal of providing resources for Canadian elementary students and teachers and its links are maintained on a regular basis, this is one site that should be part of every teachers bookmarks.
